Le père de Fritz Leiber, qui portait le même prénom que son fils, était un acteur shakespearien réputé à l'époque, oublié aujourd'hui. On peut toutefois le revoir dans les nombreux films qu'il a tournés à Hollywood. Le film le plus important dans lequel il a tourné est certainement le "Monsieur Verdoux" de Charles Chaplin, où il interprète le rôle du confesseur de Chaplin / Verdoux avant que celui-ci ne soit exécuté.
